Our Platform Screen Door (PSD) and Passenger Information System (PIS) solutions were deployed on 69 stations on Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Metro Lines 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6.
The PSDs were designed as full-height structures with glass facades that blended with the architectural design of Riyadh Metro’s stations. The aesthetic design was extended to the integrated Passenger Information System that was installed within the header of the PSD. Besides displaying useful train information, the Passenger Information System displays advertisements, providing a source of revenue to the train operator.
Besides acting as a safety barrier to prevent unauthorised track intrusions, the PSDs incorporated low emissivity (Low-E) glass panels with good heat insulation properties, helping to reduce heat transmission from the ambient environment into the station platforms. In addition to reducing noise, sand, and dirt pollution from trackside to the platform, the PSD also shielded commuters from strong tunnel draughts due to approaching trains.
